About Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart (1897–1937) became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic on 20–21 May 1932, five years to the day after Lindbergh. She set altitude and speed records and co-founded the Ninety-Nines, the international organization of women pilots.
In July 1937 she vanished over the central Pacific during a round-the-world attempt, creating aviation's most enduring mystery. The record questions are settled, though: 1932, Atlantic, solo, first woman.
