About Junko Tabei

Junko Tabei (1939–2016) became the first woman to summit Mount Everest on 16 May 1975 — twelve days after an avalanche buried her camp and left her injured. She climbed anyway.

In 1992 she became the first woman to complete the Seven Summits, the highest peak on every continent. The two 'first woman' records she settles are among the most reliable answers in exploration trivia.
