About Marie Curie

Marie Curie (1867–1934) was born Maria Skłodowska in Warsaw and moved to Paris, where she coined the term 'radioactivity', discovered the elements polonium and radium, and became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize — Physics in 1903, shared with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel.

Her 1911 solo Nobel in Chemistry made her the only person ever to hold Nobel Prizes in two different sciences. During World War I she equipped and drove mobile X-ray units to the front; her notebooks remain radioactive today and are stored in lead-lined boxes.
